It's Ageism Awareness Day, a day to reflect on how perceptions of the ageing process influence how we treat our fellow Australians. Dr Marlene Krasovitsky, co-chair and campaign director of EveryAGE Counts, says ageism is rife in Australian culture. She caught up with BIANCA ROBERTS to explain how her organisation has been working to positively change thinking about ageing, to re-imagine getting older and to set the foundations for current and future generations to age well.
Australia’s campaign to end ageism, EveryAGE Counts, is calling for urgent change in the wake of new research that has found that older Australians are massively overrepresented in Australia’s long-term unemployment crisis.
The new Intergenerational Report (IGR) has projected COVID-19 will make Australia's population smaller and older than earlier predicted, but that need not be a problem if we can take real steps to end the blight of ageism, according to the EveryAGE Counts campaign.
