NARI PD workshop: an introduction to the Australian aged care system

Must read

The aged care royal commission recommended sweeping changes to the aged care system, including an overhaul of key legislation.

The system is due for a once in a generation change in the way aged care is accessed and delivered in Australia.

Next Tuesday (June 14, 9.30am to 12pm), the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) will host a half-day workshop on an introduction to the Australian aged care system.

Aimed at aged care professionals, older people and/or their carers and researchers, the workshop will provide an overview of the aged care system, including the different programs, funding model, regulation and more.

There will also be discussion and consideration of future directions, including future policies and recommendations from the royal commission.

This evidence-based workshop will cover:

  • An older person’s pathway to receiving aged care services
  • Integration of health and aged care in Australia
  • Problems facing the aged care system, and ways to address them

NARI is Australia’s only independent national research institute dedicated to ageing and is committed to improving the life and health of older people through research and its translation into evidence-based practice.

The workshop will be led by NARI research fellow Dr Andrew Gilbert, who is a member of the team in the Social Gerontology division at NARI.

With a background in sociology, communication studies, ageing, and qualitative research, he is an emerging researcher in health and aged care systems, including organisational issues and policy.
