Batehaven aged-care facility celebrates 30 wonderful years of service

Must read

There was a distinct air of sacredness and respect at Maranatha Lodge in Batehaven on the NSW South Coast recently when residents and staff gathered to celebrate the home’s 30th anniversary.

The name ‘Maranatha’ is drawn from an ancient Aramaic phrase meaning ‘Come O Lord’, so, not surprisingly, the home has a long history and tradition associated with the church.

To mark the milestone, residential manager Tracey, hosted an afternoon high tea with 30 residents and staff paying tribute to the Home’s history.

“The land on which the home sits was originally owned by Mann’s nursery,” Tracey says.

“It was bought by Cambridge Credit and then sold to the Batemans Bay Catholic Church Parish. Catholic Healthcare then took over in 2006.

“We have witnessed the home grow steadily over the years from originally a 35 resident Home to now housing over 86 residents.”

Local parish priest Father Martin gave a prayer and blessing before Tracey presented award hampers to four of the longest-serving staff members; one of whom was maintenance coordinator Bernard, who received a long-service award for his 23 years’ service.

The community at Maranatha Lodge is particularly close-knit, with many staff and residents holding long tenures or other connections to the home. We are truly proud of the level of care and commitment that is shown to our residents.

“I am so proud and honoured to be presented with this award,” Bernard says.

“It is a great acknowledgement and has personal meaning for me

Other award recipients included two personal care assistants and a laundry assistant.

Tracey said for all associated with the home, it’s like a big extended family.

“The community at Maranatha Lodge is particularly close-knit, with many staff and residents holding long tenures or other connections to the home,” she says.

“We are truly proud of the level of care and commitment that is shown to our residents.

“We’re excited as we enter a new chapter and for what lies ahead for Maranatha Lodge.

“We’re hoping that we can continue for another 30 years or more!”

Maranatha Lodge is a place of tranquility where residents can enjoy bushland and coastal views.

The home offers permanent, respite and dementia-specific care in a community setting.

There are a range of activities for residents including music therapy classes, exercise programs, arts and crafts and social outings.
