The Catholic Healthcare Board has announced the appointment of Karen Borg as Catholic Healthcare’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective as of Monday, August 30.
Borg brings extensive leadership experience across commercial and government organisations, including as CEO for Healthdirect Australia and Jobs for NSW, and as President – Asia Pacific for ResMed, and Vice President, Worldwide Marketing – Advanced Sterilization Products for Johnson & Johnson.
“Karen is a highly capable, authentic, values-based leader with a strong, personal commitment to building a culture based on trust and transparency,” Stephen Teulan, newly appointed chairman of the Catholic Healthcare board, said.
“Karen’s deep experience in understanding customers’ needs will lead Catholic Healthcare to further develop our focus on residents, clients, patients and their carers, and support our desire to be responsive and innovative.
“We warmly welcome Karen to Catholic Healthcare and we look forward to working with her in this important leadership role.”
Teulan has assumed the role as chair of the board on July 25, following the retirement of David Robinson.
Robinson had served as chair for the past seven years, during which time Catholic Healthcare experienced a period of strong growth with the expansion of its aged care and home care ministries.
Teulan was appointed to the board in 2018 and as Chair Designate in July 2020.
He brings a wide range of strategic and leadership expertise to the board with nearly two decades of experience in health and aged care organisations, in social service and social justice advocacy.
His leadership experience extends across the faith-based sector, ranging from various Catholic religious congregations through to UnitingCare.
Teulan brings corporate experience as a Deloitte partner and Principal at the consulting firm Nous Group, as well as public policy and government advice roles.
“Catholic Healthcare’s mission is particularly relevant in this current and uncertain environment with increasing demands being made on health, aged and home care services,” he said.
“Catholic Healthcare is committed to its mission of promoting life in all its fullness by providing aged, health and home care services, inspired by the Catholic faith-tradition in accordance with our values of honesty, hospitality, compassion, excellence and respect.”
