Estia Health Blakehurst aged care home celebrates with grand opening event

Mayor of Georges River Council, Kevin Greene, has joined a host of invited guests to help launch Estia Health’s newest residential aged care home, Estia Health Blakehurst, in style.

Originally a 42 place home located on Princes Highway in Blakehurst, the former aged care home was demolished in 2018 to make way for a larger $34 million, 105 place home that now offers quality aged care services to the Blakehurst community.

Opening its doors in February, Estia Health Blakehurst has welcomed more than 50 residents who now call it ‘home’.

Mayor Greene, pictured above, left, who visited the home during its construction, said the home’s services to the local community cannot be underestimated.

“I’m very proud of my community and it’s wonderful to see this beautiful home at the heart of Blakehurst now open, building a very special community of its own and providing very high quality services to residents of the local area.”

Estia Health’s Chief Customer Officer, Damian Hiser, said the home’s upgrade was in response to local community’s needs.

“When we closed Estia Health Blakehurst in 2018, it was in the knowledge that we would return to the community with this new home, which we believe is much more suited to the expectations and needs of ageing Australians,” he said.

Kevin York, pictured above, middle, has been living in the home for more than two months and said it has more than lived up to expectations.

York is particularly happy with the home’s onsite Wellness Centre, which offers specially designed physiotherapy and allied health services as part of a premium service.

“My goal was to regain fitness and not need my walker,” he said.

“I’ve been coming to the gym every day, using the specialist equipment, having my weekly physio classes and seeing the ladies in the Centre, and my balance has improved and so has my walking.”

At the grand opening on Wednesday, May 26, guests and interested parties were able to tour the new five-storey home, which has multiple dining, living, outdoor terraces, courtyards and multipurpose areas for lifestyle events and activities.

It offers living quarters for singles and couples, with registered nurses on-site around the clock.

There’s also a hairdressing and nail salon, beauty therapy room to book for massages and treatments, along with the Wellness Centre, which will all soon be on offer to the local community.

The new facility joins Estia Health’s other two homes in Kogarah and Bexley.
